Melissa Moore appeared on the Oprah Show with Dr. Phil Thursday. Melissa Moore was a sophomore in high school when her father was arrested and confessed to the murder of eight people. Dr. Phil helped Melissa Moore to get through a difficult time in her life, and discover that this wasn’t her fault.
Moore told Oprah that her father would tell her details of the murders, and at the time she was confused about what was real and what wasn’t, and she felt guilt for not doing anything about it, and she thought that perhaps she could’ve done something to stop her father, and prevent future murders.
Moore’s father, nicknamed the “Happy Face Killer,” wrote detailed letters to a local newspaper in Utah about his crimes. In phone interviews, he has been open about what he has done and the fact that he believes “Human life has no value to me.”
In an unbelievable story of courage, Melissa Moore signed up for a Dr. Phil show, not thinking that the secret she held in for so long would come out. But as everyone else shared personal details, Melissa stood up and shared the secret that her father was a serial killer, and shocked almost everyone in the room. The three day retreat was the beginning of a healing process for Melissa.
Melissa Moore from Utah has written a book called, Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter. Her book has been added to Oprah’s book list.
