According to Variety via Yahoo! on Jan. 12, the versatile actress will be in charge on the Feb. 1 episode. No musical guests have been announced as of this writing.
By way of background, Melissa McCarthy has hosted "SNL" twice already so this will be her third time out of the gate. She has been a ratings winner both times she took on this fun yet rigorous NBC gig, so she'll probably cause the TV program to be bursting with big numbers after the Super Bowl weekend telecast.
McCarthy owns a number of huge entertainment credits regarding both the big and the small screens. A former member of the celebrated Groundlings, the prolific thespian who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Bridemaids" first became known via her role as Sookie in "Gilmore Girls."
In 2013, this enduring thespian went head-to-head with Sandra Bullock to star in the buddy flick called "The Heat." Her latest effort on the big screen is in "Tammy" with Susan Sarandon, set to hit theaters this summer.
And so, as Melissa McCarthy takes the "SNL" reins on Super Bowl weekend, this particular equine reference is spot on in the sense that this role as host with this Hollywood heavy hitter should drive the television ratings race like no other. Stay tuned.
