Making her way to the top when it comes to comedic actresses, Melissa McCarthy is about to add another milestone to her list of accomplishments: The Walk of Fame Selection Committee has announced that McCarthy is among 30 nominees that will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.
Joining McCarthy next year with the honor will include Jennifer Garner, Pharrell, Snoopy, Peter Jackson, Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Rudd, Chris O’ Donnell and Will Ferrell.
Maureen Schultz, Chair of the Walk of Fame selection committee released a statement:
“We know that the new selections represent the best of the entertainment industry and will be a great addition to the Walk of Fame for both the Hollywood community and fans from around the world who visit Hollywood every year."
Celebrities ranging from theatre, television, music, motion pictures and radio are nominated by the Walk of Fame Selection Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Applications are usually accepted in April, then looked over when the committee meets in June. The criteria for each selection are based on career longevity for each personality, awards they have won and charitable work. It is required that stars have done charitable work. As long as the celebrity has given permission, a relative, publicist or fan club can nominate that particular person.
The nominations are then approved by the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors.
There is also a sponsorship fee or $30,000. When a celebrity is selected, the sponsor pays the fee. Fees go toward maintenance of the stars, repairs and cleanings—half of which goes to the Hollywood Historic Trust, who takes care of maintaining the stars.
Dates for the ceremonies are not known yet, but only 24 out of the 30 will be broadcast to a worldwide audience.
