Melissa McCarthy falls on ‘SNL’ in towering heels

Comedienne Melissa McCarthy took a fall on her second gig hosting “Saturday Night Live.” The actress blamed it all on a pair of towering platform high heels. She had rehearsed her monologue, of course, reports Us Weekly on Sunday, April 7, but she forgot to practice walking in the killer shoes.

Being the savvy comic that she is, McCarthy just wrote in into the act. First she wobbled. Then she grabbed a chair and hung on. Before the skit was done, Melissa McCarthy had fallen to the floor. This, for a serious actress, could be deadly.

But Melissa McCarthy, of “Bridesmaids” and “Identity Thief” fame, is nothing if not a physical comedienne. She did one song on her knees.

After the fall, Melissa said it straight. “They told me, ‘Make sure you practice in your shoes.’” That’s certainly good advice in these days of high, high fashion shoes.

he didn’t listen. “I said,” she told the audience, “What, I live in heels!” But as she went on to explain, that was not honest. Actually, she says, “I'm primarily in a Croc.”

The confession went on and on. “I just really wanted to get all gussied up for you guys,” Melissa said. “Wow, I can't feel anything from my arch to my toes. You could just bite that half off.”

It’s all funny, because many non-celebrity women look totally askance at shoes that are, themselves, a joke. How do actresses do it? Practice must be the key.
