Actress Melissa Joan Hart credits a low-carb Nutrisystem diet and intense cardio barre workouts for her 40-pound weight loss, Celebrity Health Fitness reported.
Hart, who gained 60 pounds during her third pregnancy (she gave birth in September 2012), was so proud of her weight loss she donned a sizzling one-piece swimsuit in a new ad for Nutrisystem.
"I don't wear bikinis even when I go to the beach, so when I put it on in front of the cameras, it was nerve-wracking but very satisfying," Melissa told E!
Hart followed a low-carb diet that limited pasta, rice, bread and potatoes. Low carb diets such as the ketogenic and Atkins diets promote rapid weight loss by inducing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.
Hart also exercised daily by running, spinning, and doing cardio barre workouts. Melissa was in a hurry to lose the weight after her third pregnancy because she wanted to ensure that job offers would still come her way, but she also wanted to spend time with her newborn.
For me, it was important to bond with my child, as opposed to 'lose the weight,' so I waited until I was ready," she said.
I knew I had the time, and I made it a priority to eat well. I wanted to look great, so I focused on it once I knew I had the time in my schedule."
Hart still wants to lose an additional 20 pounds (to get back to her pre-baby weight), but feels amazing right now. "I am really happy where I am," she said. "I'm on a good path. I feel amazing."
Hart is now a happily married mother of three, but said she used the drug ecstasy during her youth and dated heartthrob Ryan Reynolds after meeting on the set of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Melissa detailed her on-set romances and acting adventures in her memoir, Melissa Explains It All.
