After a review of Melissa Gorga’s new book, “Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage,” claimed it promoted marital rape, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star took to Twitter, writing she was “disgusted” and felt things were “completely taken out of context,” according to NJ.com.
The review by Tracie Egan Morrissey appeared in the feminist blog, Jezebel.com, and called the book misogynistic and sexist, NJ.com reports.
“I’m so disgusted that a reporter has taken things completely out of context simply for shock value. #SAD,” Gorga tweeted.
She continued, “If you’ve read my book, you know that I am promoting mutual love, respect, honesty, and loyalty. #TRUTH.”
Morrissey was particularly critical of one passage written by Melissa Gorga’s husband, Joe Gorga, which reads, “Men, I know you think your woman isn’t the type who wants to be taken. But trust me, she is. Every girl wants to get her hair pulled once in a while. If your wife says ‘no,’ turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated.”
According to NJ.com, Morrissey further said of Gorga’s book that it would be “funny if it weren’t so damn sad.”
