Melanie Griffith missing trademark tattoo tells new story

Tattoos tell a story, and in Melanie Griffith's case, her famous heart tattoo sporting Antonio Banderas' name once told of her forever love. But this week the 56-year-old movie star hit the 60th Taormina Film Festival with her estranged husband's name blotted out with beige cover up. But she didn't stop there. According to a June 19 report by the Daily Mail, now the whole tattoo has been blotted out. It's Melanie Griffith's way of making a bold statement that she is single again and ready to start with a clean slate.

Missing love tattoo tells new story

Just as tattoos tell a story, having them disappear also tells a story. While the missing tattoo could have been a subtle way of telling people she's moving on, the star has made her missing love tattoo a hot topic at the festival.

On Tuesday, June 17 she attended a cocktail party with her friend Eva Longoria with Antonio's name noticeably blotted out but with the rest of the heart and artwork visible. Then on Thursday, the actress wore a black blazer during a photo call leaving fans questioning the status of her tattoo.

Later on Thursday, those questions were answered when she showed up for a posh party thrown by Ben Stiller and his wife, Christine Taylor. Melanie wore a sleeveless dress paired with a black shawl. When she purposely and boldly let the shawl drop, bystanders saw no hint of a tattoo. It was a silent but loud announcement. She was single again. There was no hint of the heart tattoo, its decorative swirls, or Banderas' name.

The couple had announced their intention to split in a joint statement on Friday, June 6.

"We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family, and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together," they said in a joint statement." - Us Weekly
