The Antonio Banderas Melanie Griffith divorce is still top news and TMZ is reporting today that the pair is deciding now who will have custody of the dogs. The former couple share one child who is now almost 18 years old.

Melanie Griffith filed for divorce from her husband, Latin actor, Antonio Banderas, on June 6 of 2014 due to irreconcilable differences. The couple had been married for 20 years, though Antonio Banderas cheating rumors have plagued the couple for quite some time. Banderas and Griffith started having an affair on the set of the movie "Too Much" back in 1995, sources say.

A source tells TMZ that Melanie Griffith will demand custody of three dogs that they shared during the marriage. Two of the dogs were adopted from the Ace of Hearts animal shelter last year.

Griffith will most likely be granted custody since she is clearly the better choice, according to the TMZ informant. Issues related to dog custody laws have increased in the last couple of years. Many people have strong attachments to their pets and losing custody of the pet during divorce is a great cause of stress and distress for some. Despite the strong emotional attachments, in many states dogs and other pets are still considered personal property.

The topic of dog custody during a divorce is explored in the 1937 movie "The Awful Truth."
