Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have been married for 18 years, a very long time as Hollywood romances go. Griffith, 56, filed for divorce from Banderas, 53, on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. She is requesting child support and sole physical and joint legal custody of Stella, their 17-year-old daughter. Stella will be 18 in September. She has also requested spousal support. According to TMZ, the decision to go their separate ways was “amicable.”
In a joint statement, Griffith and Banderas said, “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together."
Melanie Griffith has been married three times before, twice to “Miami Vice” star Don Johnson and also to Steve Bauer. She has a son, Alexander, with Bauer and a daughter, Dakota, with Don Johnson. Dakota Johnson is an actress and has the lead role in the steamy film “50 Shades of Grey,” now in production. Over the 18 years of her marriage to Antonio Banderas, rumors of a split have been ongoing, despite the couple saying that the marriage was rock solid.
Antonio Banderas was previously married to actress Ana Leza from 1987 to 1996. There were no children from that marriage. Griffith and Banderas were wed in London in May 1996, shortly after the divorce from his first wife.
Melanie Griffith is best known for the 1988 film “Working Girl.” She has starred in many other films over the years, plus has worked on TV series. She was last seen on TV’s “Hawaii Five-O.”
Antonio Banderas has made many films, both in Spanish and English. You will know him from such films as “The Mambo Kings,” “The Mask of Zorro” and “Spy Kids.” He is also known for being the voice of Puss in Boots in the “Shrek” movies.
