On Tuesday, October 9th at the intimate Bardot Hollywood, ASCAP kicked off its 5th annual Women Behind the Music series last night in Los Angeles, CA. This year's event focused on the achievements of the women of Title 9 Productions which included Carmen Murray, CEO of Title 9; Melanie Fiona, Artist & Songwriter, LeToya Luckett, Artist, Songwriter & Actress; and Andrea Martin, Songwriter & Producer. The conversation was moderated by Senior Editor of Billboard magazine, Gail Mitchell leading a conversation on their journey into music, maintaining their voice and what's next for their career in music. The event included an acoustic live performance by Melanie Fiona & Andrea Martin which captivated attendees by creating a sense of nostalgia and intimacy. The message that resonated throughout the event was of sisterhood by uplifting and supporting each other as women in music and not hesitating to act on faith and confidence in pursuing your dreams.
The ASCAP Women Behind the Music series encourages and recognizes women in the music community, highlighting not only women songwriters and artists, but women working in all facets of the business. The series will also take place in New York, NY on October 23rd and Atlanta, GA on October 29th. Each event will feature three honorees and a moderator. Previous honorees include Kandi Burruss, Sheila E., Siedah Garrett, Goapele, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, Ledisi, Janelle Monáe, Monica and Kelly Rowland.
