Astros closer Mark Melancon, free-agent right-hander Lance Pendleton, Rice University product Diego Seastrunk and ex-NFL linebacker and Texas A&M legend Quentin Coryatt are scheduled to sign autographs as part of the "Cash's Care for Pets" event on Saturday, Dec. 3 at The Buffalo Grille (1301 S. Voss Road).
Juan DeLeon Studio and The Buffalo Grille will serve as the sponsors of the third annual event, which runs from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Cost per autograph is $5.00 per item, with unsigned 8x10 photos available for purchase on the day of the event for $5.00 each.
Game-used items and other sports memorabilia, especially of J.D. Martinez, Jason Michaels, Melancon, Xavier Nady, Bud Norris and Hunter Pence, highlight this year's charity silent auction.
All proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters.
Cash DeLeon, a standout 13-year-old eighth-grade student at North Shore Middle School, started "Cash's Care for Pets" three years ago in order to make a positive difference in the community.
His passion and caring nature toward raising funds to help local animal shelters provide food, water and medicine has captured the attention of several major league players in Houston.
Free-agent right-hander Garrett Mock, a North Shore High School and University of Houston product, thinks highly of DeLeon's desire and willingness to go the extra mile to help animals.
"Cash is a young man who listens," Mock said. "His mom and dad are raising a special kid. He's a youngster willing to go to work and do right. Cash is detail-oriented and wants to help others. It's an amazing quality for a teenager to have. I would do anything to help him with his cause in the community. He's a leader."
Former Astros right-hander and current free agent Chris Sampson has known DeLeon for a few years and feels the same way.
"Cash gets out in the community and wants to do something positive," Sampson said. "That stems from his parents. They are always encouraging him. He's a talented athlete, a great student and a very good person. He's got a big heart inside his body."
