Ask any established or older musician or songwriter and they will tell you that young artists coming up today have it better than they did.

With technology at their disposal on computers, tablets, and even mobile phones and websites like YouTube giving the opportunity for international exposure and stardom, you don't have to "discovered" anymore in a sense.

That's not to say making it in the music business doesn't cost money.

It does, and 22-year old independent recording artist and songwriter Mel Mednick found that out early on.

But the New York native wasn't going to let that stop her and end the end result is a debut album, Espirit de L'escalier that will be released on Tuesday.

Mednick says the popular website Kickstarter helped make it a reality.

"I had been writing songs forever and wanted to release them," said an engaging Mednick. "I saw friends of mine use Kickstarter for film projects and thought I would give it a try."

For those of you not familiar with Kickstarter, it's a website where if you have a product, idea, or an endeavor you are looking to fund, you can ask for financial help and you provide something in return. It's been used to launch many successful brands and products.

Mednick promised items like a copy of her finished album, or a mention in her liner notes it return for a donation.

She reached her goal in a matter of weeks and now has an album to show for it.

The album comes out on Tuesday, but that doesn't mean Mednick is slowing down.

As she did with her Kickstarter campaign, Mednick says she will tirelessly promote the album on social media.

She's also in the process of working on a music video for her single and on revamping her website at www.melmednick.com.

Promoting with videos on YouTube is also something Mednick is thinking about down the road.

Give Mel's debut album a listen. It's four tracks, plus a bonus track of catchy music with meaningful lyrics. Mednick says if you listen, you will get something out of this album. Just like she did from Kickstarter.

She's one to watch.
