Mel Kiper, of the four letter network, and the guy who has inspired not only myself but thousand of other NFL Draft fanatics out has come out with his top five senior QB prospects for the 2010 NFL draft. Even though Mel works for the Evil Empire, if it were not for him there probably wouldn’t be so many NFL draft sites, including this one.
This ranking is going to give a few teams like that St. Louis Rams, and the Washington Redskins something to really think about. Examiner.com’s St. Louis Rams writer has declared QB to be the top need of the Rams, a need they may need to address with the number one overall pick. With a new regime in Washington, it also seems like they could use a QB upgrade over Jason Campbell, and may want to pay particular attention to this list.
With all that being said here is Kiper’s top five senior QB prospects:
1. Colt McCoy Texas
2. Tim Tebow Florida
3. Dan Lefevour Central Michigan
4. Tony Pike Cincinnati
5. Sean Canfield Oregon State
It doesn’t seem like this list fouls up the overall Top 10 QB prospects list for the 2010 NFL draft, but it may raise the stock of Lefevour and Pike who both come from smaller programs.
The Rams now have a big choice on their hands. Do they take Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen, who just had toe surgery, or do they take Colt McCoy, how just sat out the BCS title game with a dead arm? The third option of course would be to draft Ndamukong Suh the overall top prospect for this draft.
Many have the Redskins taking Sam Bradford with the fourth pick, but Bradford was hurt not once, but twice in 2009, and this Lefevour kid is a very interesting prospect. ‘Skins GM Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan are certain to have a debate over this pick. How fits better with what Shanahan wants to do with the Redskin offense?
However the biggest question on this list is Tebow. Tebow is going to have to turn some heads at the Scouting Combine to surpass the other QB’s and become a top ten pick. For him the scouting combine is going to be make or break, do well enough and become a top ten pick, don’t do well and wait it out on draft weekend. We shall see.
