Most couples in Milwaukee don’t have a large amount of assets to worry about when going through a divorce; however, everything a couple has is considered marital property unless you can prove that you owned it before you got married. Without any proof, everything is split evenly in a divorce, unless you can agree to a different split or you have a prenuptial agreement that dictates what each party will receive. Sometimes no prenuptial agreement can net you a large amount of money, similar to Mel Gibson’s ex-wife.
Gibson’s divorce was finally finished on December 23, 2011, after spending 31 years with his wife, Robyn Moore. The couple has seven children together. The couple has been living separately since 2006. Moore filed for divorce in April 2009, but no official separation date was ever listed.
While the specifics of the divorce settlement haven’t been released, the couple had no prenuptial agreement in place. This means that Moore was likely ordered to receive half of Gibson’s assets, which were estimated at $850-million as of 2006. This would mean a $425-million settlement for Moore. It has also been rumored that she will continue to receive a portion of the residuals from the movies he made during their marriage, which includes the blockbuster “Passion of the Christ.”
Gibson is also in the midst of an ugly custody dispute over his toddler daughter with ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. When Moore uncovered this relationship and found that Gibson was expecting a child with Grigorieva, she filed for divorce. During this custody dispute, Grigorieva accused Gibson of domestic violence, of which is ex-wife Moore defended him, stating he had never physically abused her or their seven children. These charges were later dropped, but the damage to Gibson’s reputation has been done.
