There will be blood... In Norway this time.
I've been slamming movies lately like they were pain pills. It's the end of the decade folks. Lists need to be drawn up, scrutinized, and agonized over. I've been working on my Top 50 Movies of the Decade list for weeks now - expect it December 28th - 31st.
We're also at the death rattle of 2009. Which means the annual end of the year movie migration is at its peak. Movies aren't just a passable hobby of mine right now, they are my existence.
What does any of this have to do with the next Mel Gibson flick? Very little actually. But taking any time out to write something other than a two paragraph love letter about one of of the films I've locked onto my Top 50 list for publication in a few weeks is usually out of the question. The news has to be extra good in order to break for reporting. Me being a Mel Gibson nut and all - and rediscovering what a wonderful actor Leonardo DiCaprio is while I revisit most of his films from the last ten years as I work out the mechanics of this cumbersome list - I couldn't have been more tickled this morning when I read the trades, (well Variety...) and found out that the next Mel Gibson flick would be starring Leonardo DiCaprio. What's the movie about?
Vikings.
Sweet, merciless, Norwegian death machines. Think Braveheart with horns. Leo better start brushing up on his 8th century Scandinavian...
If this news doesn't bring a skip to your heart, a whistle to your lips, a spring to your step, then maybe this next little tidbit on the Gibson/DiCaprio/Viking Epic will do just that.
The film's being written by William Monahan. You know, that sharp little screenwriter that won the Oscar for The Departed? Yeah, he's going to be penning the next Mel Gibson period piece. No word yet on when this project actually will begin shooting. Just the knowledge that it exists, or could exist someday, is enough to get this frazzled movie-fan through the next three weeks. If anything I'm praying that this new Gibson flick will be strong enough to knock Pathfinder permanently from my memory banks...

I was going to send you a link to that article. I knew it would make you want to change your underwear. Glad to know there's a reason I haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope the plans for your site are still on!
Two reasons. Movie-bingeing and this little four month old baby who just won't take no for an answer. Nice to hear from you Duzy. Are you working on anything for the end of the year/decade?
Umm . . . I hadn't planned to. But if you ask me very very nicely . . .
Glad to hear little Charlie Jean is getting the attention she deserves! :-D
Please, please, pleasy-please????
Only for you. I will email it, since I have no place to publish.
