Mel Gibson’s dad, Hutton Gibson, filed for divorced back in June at the age of 93. According to the Daily Mail on Jan. 4, the now94-year-old devout Catholic’s divorce from his wife of 10 years has been finalized.
The marriage to Teddy Joye Hicks lasted ten years and was the second marriage for Hutton, following the death of his first wife and Mel’s mom, Anne, two years before.
According to TMZ, Teddy Joye walks away with in excess of $640,000 in savings and cash and will be keeping the Lincoln Town Car. Hutton leaves the union with a meager $22,595 and will be splitting an additional $22,000 of separate property with his ex. Hutton is also seeking spousal support.
The couple has 11 children between them and Hutton is the grandfather to 50 grandchildren.
Irreconcilable differences were listed in court documents as the reason for the divorce and no other explanation has been offered, making the divorce even more curious when the elder Gibson’s staunch religious views are considered.
Hutton stirred controversy for himself back in 2003 because of his beliefs and made states relating to the Holocaust that riled many. In an interview with the New York Times, he challenged how the Nazis were able to dispose of six million Jewish people during WWII.
Mel’s own love life has been anything but smooth sailing, too. His divorce from wife Robyn is thought to be one of the most expensive Hollywood divorces of all time.
