He's mad, he's beautiful ... and he's a "Lethal Weapon" once more, as Mel Gibson signs on as the bad guy for The Expendables 3, reported by Entertainment Weekly (EW), who also confirmed that Antonio Banderas has signed on for the third installment of Sylvester Stallone's blockbuster franchise that pays tribute to the action heroes of the 1980s and early 1990s.
During his heyday, Gibson became People's "Sexiest Man Alive" thanks to the Mad Max and Lethal Weapon films, became a Oscar-winning director with Braveheart, and rediscovered The Passion of the Christ before really going "Mad" in recent years due to his divorce of wife Robyn Moore after three decades of marriage and seven children, his alcoholism, his relationship with Oksana Grigorieva (the mother of his daughter, Lucia) and troubles with the law such as domestic violence.
Antonio, who turns 53 Saturday, worked with Stallone in 1995's Assassins from Andy and Larry Wachowski, the brothers responsible for making Keanu Reeves "the One" known as Neo in The Matrix trilogy. Antonio is also known as the voice of Puss in Boots in the Shrek films and the 2011 prequel, as well as "the Fox" called Zorro in The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro.
The news of Gibson and Banderas joining The Expendables 3 came less than a week after Sly tweeted Harrison Ford signing on when Bruce Willis declined to reprise his role as Mr. Church due to the Die Hard star wanting a payday of $4 million dollars for four days of shooting, which led to Stallone tweeting Bruce as "greedy" and "lazy".
The Expendables 3, which is set to begin production sometime this month, is scheduled for release on August 15, 2014 (my birthday!).
