The eighth season finale of “America’s Got Talent” took place at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Sept. 18, 2013. Illusionist dancer Kenichi Ebina was named the winner. He gets the grand prize of $1 million and a headlining show in Las Vegas.
Guest entertainers in the season finale included Luke Bryan, Icona Pop, Dierks Bentley, Josh Groban, Il Divo, Heather Headley, Gavin DeGraw, James Lipton and Earth, Wind & Fire. Also there were the season’s top six finalists: Ebina, comedian Taylor Williamson, singer Jimmy Rose, magician Collins Key, operatic trio Forte and singer Cami Bradley.
The "America's Got Talent" judges (Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel) and host (Nick Cannon) were among those who walked the red carpet backstage after the show. Here is what Mel B said when I caught up her for a brief interview on the red carpet.
What can you say about your song "For Once in My Life," which is your first solo single in eight years?
The video has premiered and the single is out on iTunes.
As a mother, how do you balance your career and home life?
My kids are usually with me but since school started ... That's why I'm flying straight out after this to see my kids.
What kinds of family activities do you like to do together?
We usually have dance-offs. And we help my husband cook.
Who usually wins in the dance-offs?
I'd like to say that I win, but it's actually my 6-year-old [daughter Angel] who probably wins.
Were you surprised by any of the final placings in the season finale?
I think the Top 6 were incredible. I think anyone of those people could have won. I was rooting for Jimmy Rose and Taylor, but with the exposure that the show has given them. I think their careers are going to be fine.
Will you be back on "America's Got Talent" as a judge next year?
We're taking it one day at a time.
In Australia, you were a judge on "The X Factor" and a co-host on "Dancing With the Stars"? When do you think you'll be back in Australia?
I might be back in February [2014]. We'll see.
When do you think the next Spice Girls reunion will be?
I'm always up for a Spice Girls reunion.
