Cooley will represent New Hampshire at the 2014 Miss America Pageant, where a new winner is scheduled to be crowned on Sept. 14.
At the time of her crowning, Cooley was the reigning Miss Greater Derry.
As her talent, she sang “On My Way.” Her pageant platform is, “Championing Abilities.”
Cooley is a neuroscience major at the University of New Hampshire, according to the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Progarm website.
"I have developed a passion for changing the lives of the disabled by volunteering my time and ability," she wrote in a statement as Miss Greater Derry. "I hope to inspire people to see life as I do, with the glass as half full rather than half empty."
If she is crowned Miss America, she will become the first contestant representing New Hampshire to wear the national crown.
Others placing high at the pageant were Holly Blanchard, first runner-up; Rylee Field, second runner-up; Nichole Lacuzio, third runner-up and Michelle Mayer, fourth runner-up.
"We help to empower young women by awarding scholarship money to those competing for the titles of Miss New Hampshire, Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen, and various local titles through our network of local chapters, who demonstrate, in our spirited competitions, a level of excellence in the areas of scholastic achievement, performing arts, healthy living, leadership and community involvement," according to pageant officials. "We believe that the implementation of our mission not only serves to further the education of our participants, but also the New Hampshire communities in which these women choose to volunteer, work and live."
