Just a short time removed from their summer Gigantour, Megadeth has announced a winter tour that will see the thrash metal legends playing both New Jersey and Long Island at the end of this year.
Dave Mustaine and Megadeth headlined an abbreviated lineup of Gigantour at the Hammerstein Ballroom in August (read my review here), and that show came just a few months after playing both Best Buy Theater and The Paramount on their Countdown to Extinction 20th Anniversary tour (read all about that epic full album performance here). Now the band is scheduled to return to the Paramount on Tuesday, December 3, as well as the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ on November 29, which is also Thanksgiving weekend.
The total run of five local shows makes 2013 a record year for Megadeth and tri-state area metalheads. Support will come from Fear Factory and Nonpoint, and both theaters offer large floors for moshers as well as comfortable mezzanines for the less crowdsurfing-inclined.
The shows also come just a few days after Slayer hits the Theater at Madison Square Garden, making this Thanksgiving a bountiful fest for live heavy metal music. Tickets go on sale this Friday on Ticketmaster and with presales starting as early tomorrow.
