Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood megachurch in Houston, Texas, was targeted by thieves. The megachurch thieves robbed credit card information, cash and checks – which were all in a safe, according to a Fox News report on Tuesday.
No one has been arrested in the case. Some $600,000 was taken from the safe during the theft. Officials at the church are said to be cooperating fully with the police, but they had no comments for the media.
The offerings reportedly in the safe were given on Saturday and Sunday. It is believed the theft took place sometime between 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Due to the theft, the megachurch’s followers were told to monitor their accounts.
Officials at the church stated that there is no data breach. Additionally, the stolen funds are insured. The stolen credit card information was in donation envelopes. Osteen’s sermons are televised to approximately 100 countries. It is reported that more than 38,000 persons attend his weekly services.
