Mega Millions jackpot hits $400 million

Mega Millions is really living up to its name, according to a story issued by NBCNews.com on December 11, 2013.

No one matched all of the winning Mega Million numbers from the December 10, 2013 drawing. The lack of a winner has pushed the jackpot for Friday, December 13 to approximately $400 million, making it the second largest Mega Millions jackpot on record.

To recap, Tuesday’s winning Mega Millions numbers were: 05,12,22,41,65 with a Gold Mega ball of 13 and a Megaplier of 2.

The December 10, 2013 Mega Millions jackpot of $344 million was the fourth largest on record. While no one matched all of the numbers, there were five tickets sold that matched 5 numbers but did not match the Megaball, making them worth $1 million each. Two of these $1 million winning tickets were sold in Ohio, with one each sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey.

Mega Millions holds a drawing twice per week, on Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. The game is played similar to Powerball and other like games. It starts off with 75 balls, numbered 1 through 75, from which five are drawn. The Mega Ball is then drawn from a set of 15 balls, numbered 1 through 15. Winning the big prize requires matching all 5 numbered balls plus the Mega Ball.
