Mega Millions jackpot could grow to $1 billion if no winning ticket tonight

The Mega Millions jackpot rises to $636 million for tonight’s drawing, but the big buzz today is that if no one wins this jackpot by Friday, it could grow to $1 billion. This would leave a single winner of the Mega Millions jackpot with more money than Beyonce’s net worth.

According to CNN on Dec. 17, tonight’s Mega Millions’ jackpot is the second biggest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. Back in March of 2012, the Mega Million $656 million jackpot was won by three winning tickets, so it was split three ways. That was the biggest lottery drawing, but it looks like the record could break this week.

If you think Mega Millions seems tougher to win than ever before, you’re right. This is why the jackpot has gotten so large, as the prize rises with each week that no one wins. The odds are greater since the creators of the Mega Millions increased the pool of numbers to choose from. They did this back in October.

People are lined up in many states across the nation today to buy a Mega Millions ticket. In Florida $8,000 worth of Mega Millions tickets were sold every minute today, for tonight’s drawing.
