The national Mega Millions lottery jackpot is at $47 million, lottery officials announced Tuesday in an email alert.
Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday after draw entry closes at 7:45 p.m. PST/10:45 p.m. ET.
If there is a winner, he/she will be able to claim the entire jackpot, valued at about $34 million after taxes.
Another option is to take 26 annual payments of about $1.8 million minus taxes.
"The overall odds of winning any prize in Mega Millions is about 1 in 40 and the odds of winning the jackpot is about 1 in 176 million," according to lottery officials.
Tickets are $1 each and available in 44 U.S. jurisdictions. For addresses of local ticket outlets, visit the national interactive map on the Mega Millions website.
"Players may pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 56 and one number from 1 to 46 - or select Easy Pick," according to lottery rules. "You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing."
