We already knew about classic legendary Mewtwo receiving separate Mega evolutions dependent on what version of the game you play, but now it looks like he won't be unique in this feature. During last night's airing of the premiere episode of the Gen 1 retelling animation Pokémon Origins Nintendo and Game Freak saw fit to sneak in a preview of another old favorite that will be receiving the double treatment: Charizard.
Mega Charizard X, found only in Pokémon X, will finally quiet the piled-up fan requests from the last decade-plus and retype Charizard as Fire/Dragon. The new form also comes with a boost to Attack power and the ability Tough Claws, which will boost physical attacks even further. The Mega Charizard seen in the earlier reveal was officially confirmed as the version exclusive to Pokémon Y, and if the pattern established with the separate Mega Mewtwo forms holds it will likely emphasize Charizard's Special stats.
Official channels are keeping tight-lipped about the possibility of other title-specific Mega forms, but with its propensity for throwing expectations up in the air and whipping up a strong audience reaction this is exactly the kind of thing to be expected of Nintendo. Ten days left and counting to see just how many more surprises we'll see.
