On Tuesday, May 20 the Hillsborough County Real Estate and Homeless Services departments held a scheduled public meeting to discuss a proposal for repurposing the former Hillsborough County Sheriff's work release facility into a 175-bed emergency housing for the homeless.

The facility being discussed is located at 1800 Orient Road in Tampa and will provide emergency housing for single men and women who are homeless.

Pinellas County has a homeless shelter and Hillsborough County is on the way to having one of its own, as well. Safe Harbor is designed to be a safe haven for the homeless and help them with getting the necessary tools to get back on their feet.

Safe Harbor is managed by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Kenly Park, 3101 N. 66th St.Tampa, FL 33619.
