Who is the voice behind "Siri", the mechanical personal assistant in iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch? Millions of Apple iPhone users have wondered about the answer to this question since “Siri” was first incorporated into iOS three years ago, when she first appeared on the iPhone 4s. Well now, for the first time in three years, the source of her voice has been revealed, according to an Oct 5 report in The Times of India.
The voice of “Siri” belongs to Susan Bennett, a voice-over actress who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Bennett was outed by CNN on Friday, after an audio-forensics expert verified the revelation. Bennett has come forward to confirm that she is indeed the voice of “Siri”. Apple has declined to comment.
"Siri", the popular personal digital assistant, uses your voice commands to send messages, place phone calls, create text messages that you dictate, schedule meetings, opens apps, provide directions for driving or walking, play songs, search for answers to questions that you ask her, and lots more. Despite her rather snarky comments at times (just say, “Tell me a riddle” and “Siri” may reply, “I'm not feeling particularly sphinx-like today”), her popularity continues to grow.
In iOS 7 “Siri” has been given an all-new user interface. But, most importantly, her voice has been made smother and more natural-sounding. And while Susan Bennett provides the voice for the American female “Siri”, “Siri” itself now has new voices in new languages.
Besides the American male voice of “Siri”, there is also “Daniel”, the accented British voice of British “Siri” based, rumor has it, on the voice of Jon Briggs, a technology reporter. There is also Karen Jacobsen (known as the “GPS Girl”), who is the voice of Australian “Siri”.
