Last night during my evening walk, I heard what sounded like a group of kids talking. The sounds though were really creepy. With today being Halloween, it seemed more like animals speaking to one another. I walked toward the sound and in the corner of a parking lot was a group of cats. They were a few feet from one another in a big circle. If I did not know better, it looked like they were holding a meeting. The lead cat, I guessed, took one look at me and quickly adjourned the meeting. They quickly but quietly left.
This encounter reminded me of a non-profit I heard about called The Found Animals Foundation www.foundanimals.org. Its mission is to reduce shelter euthanasia in Los Angeles. Among its many programs is Adopt & Shop, which helps shelter cats and dogs find a new and permanent home. They are not your typical "pet store" but an adoption store where they help match the right pet to their new owner. Their mantra is "saving lives one adoption at a time."
There are three local Adopt & Shop stores in the area:
Adopt & Shop Lakewood
353 Lakewood Center Mall
Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Adopt & Shop Mission Viejo
184 The Shops at Mission Viejo
Mission Viejo, CA, 92691
Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A new store will be opening up soon in Culver City at 4235 Sepulveda Blvd. The more animals who are adopted, then the less need for meetings to discuss where to find their next meal.
