Part One:
An interview with Veronica Mayo of Vemayca LLC is part of an ongoing series called Spotlight on Home-Based Business Owners: Lessons from Entrepreneurs. The Seattle Home-based Business Examiner seeks to provide you with a variety of lessons learned from a range of business owners that will benefit any reader seeking information about starting or growing a home-based business in the Seattle area or elsewhere in the United States.

A few years ago as she was packing for one of her many business trips, Veronica Mayo became extremely frustrated that her favorite cosmetic bag had become so dirty inside. Most women and some men with toiletry bags can relate: the mascara, powder, and grime that gets layered inside. Mayo had more important things to do with her time as a busy wife, mother, and American Airlines executive. This led her to the idea for the removable Soft Pearl Liner for a cosmetic bag and her new company Vemayca LLC.

"The Vemayca cosmetic bag is designed to be used with or without the Soft Pearl Liner, providing ultimate flexibility, says Mayo."The unique design of my Vemayca cosmetic bags makes them perfect for keeping a variety of beauty and personal accessories organized. Vemayca was created ultimately because I needed cosmetic bags and accessory bags that suited my needs and lifestyle. Practicality was just one of the requirements. It was also important that I design a cosmetic bag that was soft, modern, and beautiful."

After living in Texas for over 20 years, Mayo moved to the Seattle area and launched Vemayca LLC. Being new to the area, she didn't have the same support network that she had built over the years in Texas. She worked with a business coach that specifically addressed her needs as a small business owner, provided her with the accountability she needed to stay in action, and helped her identify resources in the region with whom she could develop relationships.

Mayo advocates that one of the most important pieces of growing a business is to develop a network of like-minded entrepreneurs, particularly women, with whom you can share frustrations, ideas, and assistance. The Seattle chapter of Ladies Who Launch is one such group that been an important networking tool for Mayo.

Although Vemayca is a young company, it has been nationally recognized. Vemayca cosmetic bags have been featured on the Top 10 Must Have Beauty Travel Products by Honeymoons.com and on a segment about New Organizing Products by Better, a nationally syndicated lifestyle TV show and part of the Better Homes and Garden Network.
