On Tuesday, March 11, the Cooking Channel premieres this year’s new season of "The Freshman Class: Santa Cruz" which takes place at Cabrillo College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality program in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Before the season starts, here is a peek at the diversified four who are the stars of this season’s hit show. Meet Amalia, Gabriel, Jim and Kim:

  • Amalia is 35, and her lifelong dream is to own her own bakery. Her dream was put on hold as she became a full-time mom at a young age. Now her wings have opened, and she is ready to start college. Will she and her four young kids be able to handle the stress?
  • Gabriel is 22, and a former teenage gang-banger. Having spent time in jail for robbery, he now has a beautiful girlfriend and newborn son. Will he be able to handle the pressures of school, fatherhood and the temptations of his former lifestyle that try to suck him back in?
  • Jim is 53, and a Navy veteran. He had a successful landscaping business until eight years ago when he broke his back and could not work. During this time, his savings ran out, and he ended up homeless and living in his van. Now with the help of financial aid, he is following his dream, but fears that his age and health problems may prevent him from seeing his graduation day.
  • Kim is 50, and from appearances, she has the ideal California life. She lives on a 10-acre estate in the Santa Cruz hills and seems like the perfect wife. However, her dreams of becoming a chef were put on hold to tend to her husband’s needs. When this culinary school drop-out returns to following her dream, will her picture-perfect life be compromised?

If you followed this program last season, you saw how their studies and outside lives conflicted; so expect nothing less. If you did not watch last season, you can catch up here.
