With a full day of star-studded events, the annual Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will celebrate the cast and crew of the ABC’s LOST on October 17, 2009.

“The brilliance of LOST has forever raised the bar for future television projects. For the past five years LOST has kept TV viewers on the edge of their seats waiting for the next plot twist or turn and Hawaii has had the privilege of being the backdrop for this revolutionary show,” said Chuck Boller, Executive Director of HIFF. “We want to celebrate this partnership and what better way than to bring the show’s creators, producers, cast and crew together with their biggest fans. HIFF’s celebration of LOST will give the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interface with the incredible people behind this award-winning series.”

  • An “Evening with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse,” will be held at the Royal Hawaiian Theater (formerly Waikiki Nei) in Honolulu.  Buy Tickets

Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will receive HIFF’s “Vision in Film Award,” presented by the mayor of the city. Previous recipients include the likes of famed Chinese director Ang Lee.

HIFF will also honor LOST executive producer and director Jack Bender and co-executive producer Jean Higgins with the Festival’s inaugural Mahalo Nui Loa Award, a new award created especially for Bender and Higgins.

The evening will also feature guest appearances by LOST cast and crew, though no word as to exactly who will show up has been released.

Before the evening’s festivities, “Master Class” seminars themed around the TV show’s production will be available throughout the afternoon. Classes will be held at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Cinemas, also in Honolulu.

  • Master Class 1: “Producing and Directing a Hit Show” - Once the scripts are done in Burbank, CA, it is up to the production team based on Oahu to realize this vision. An inside look with director and executive producer Jack Bender and co-executive producer Jean Higgins.  Buy Tickets
  • Master Class 2: “Bringing the Design of Each Episode Together” - Either a flashback set in arid Iraq or snowy Minneapolis or a flash forward in Seoul or Berlin, the crew produces world locales in Oahu – a talk with the cinematographer, set and construction crew members. Featuring Production Designer Zack Grobler, Director of Photography John Bartley, Construction Coordinator Michael Crowe, and Location Manger/Associate Producer Jim Triplett.  Buy Tickets
  • Master Class 3: “Costume & Props” - A talk with the costume department and prop master from the show. From tattered and dirty clothing on the island, to costumes for flashbacks, flash forwards, costuming and props provide verisimilitude to the LOST universe. Featuring Costume Designer Roland Sanchez and Propmaster Robert Kyker.  Buy Tickets

Ticket prices for an "Evening with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse" are $50; master class seminar tickets are $10 general public and $9 for students, seniors, children and military personnel.

Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Monday, October 5th – you may purchase online, in person from the HIFF Box Office, or by calling (808) 548-5905.

Namaste.
