Developments happened fast over the weekend in the Obama First Puppy story. First, TMZ reported late Friday night that the puppy is a six-month old male Portuguese Water Dog puppy who will be formally announced by the White House this Tuesday, April 14.
Then the website FirstDogCharlie.com suddenly popped up flaunting the first photograph of the new puppy and first alleged interview.
After that, the Washington Post pouted that they'd been robbed of the First Puppy scoop, as promised by the White House. But the venerable paper did get the scoop on the puppy's new name: Bo.

The name, the Washington Post reports, is a nod to Michelle Obama's father's nickname Diddley, and to the Obama girls' cousins, who have a cat named Bo.
Several weeks ago, Bo met with Obamas and he was very well-behaved. He's been getting obedience lessons from Senator Ted Kennedy's dog trainers at a facility outside Washington.
We couldn't be happier to see the joy that Bo is bringing to Malia and Sasha.
We love our Portuguese Water Dogs and know that the girls -- and their parents -- will love theirs too.
--Senator Ted Kennedy and his wife Victoria, as quoted in the Washington Post
