Meet an author and enjoy some jazz in Palmdale

Local author Maria Morales will sign copies of her book "My Graduation" from 1 - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale.

Copies will be on sale for those who haven't purchased one yet.

“I started writing my book the first day that I started taking classes at College of the Canyons,” Morales said about her work. “The title of my book is My Graduation, because I finished the day I graduated. It talks about my struggles to get an education while raising a family, as well as the nostalgia for my old country and my love for my new country.”

The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. For more information call the library at (661) 267-5600 or TDD 267-5167.

Relax Saturday evening with the West Coast Classical Jazz Combo and the Jeff Kaser Quartet as they present an "Evening of Jazz" \ at 7:30 pm at the Palmdale Playhouse, located at 38334 10th Street East, Palmdale.

"An Evening of Jazz" will pay homage to jazz giants, featuring famous compositions by Duke Ellington, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Benny Golson, Joe Zawinul, Oliver Nelson, John Coltrane and Kenny Garrett.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth. Tickets may be purchased 24 hours a day online. For information call the Playhouse at (661) 267-5684.
