BROOKSVILLE - Dog rescue is not glamorous or glorious, but it is an important job often done by silent heroes who simply believe that every life saved was worthy of saving.
That concept comes to life in Brooksville, Florida with Pam Vandenburgh, who runs R.u.f.f. (Rescuing Unwanted Friendly Fidos)
While Vandengurgh loves being a part of the solution for abandoned dogs, she has an unusual view of her rescue efforts.
“I wish I would never have to rescue another animal because every animal was spayed and neutered,” Vandenburg said on a recent visit to her farm.
Vandenburg believes that over-breeding and unwanted pregnancies are the primary reason there seems to be no shortage of abandoned dogs. She believes that mandatory spay and neuter laws would go a long way toward solving the pet over population problem, not only in Hernando County, but nationwide.
R.U.F.F. Currently has more than a dozen abandoned or abused dogs up for adoption, and the sooner they find loving forever homes, the sooner there will be room to rescue more dogs in need.
Saving lives is what heroes do, even if those lives have four paws and a tail.
