Medina speaks at Log Cabin Republican meeting

Texas Gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina.

Debra Medina is a self-professed Ron Paul Republican and Bible-believing, Southern Baptist.  So where else would you expect to find her except the largest gathering of Gay Republicans in the area?  Dallas' award-winning Log Cabin Republican club hosted Mrs. Medina Monday evening that ended up being a very good appearance for both speaker and host club.

The Republican Party is certainly blasted for its lack of diversity, but none of that was present Monday night.  Medina mentioned in her comments that she is a Bible-believing Southern Baptist, but that in her consideration of the role of government in moral issues reverted to her Libertarian roots in answering one question.  The question mentioned wording on the State's Republican Party Platform, which allegedly depicts homosexuals as child-molesters.  Medina stated that she has taken a step back to her personal beliefs on the role of government in regulating such matters, and concluded that there are limited powers, even at the State level, to regulate such matters.

Medina also stated that she is in favor of a switch from a property tax-based revenue system to a sales tax-based system.  However, she was unable to answer how such a system would be more efficient than the present one and failed to address the issues with how details in transition and in the new system would be carried out.

Take a look at video of her presentation.

And on a funny note, I was at Stromboli's on Hillcrest working online and eating pizza when The Family Guy came on the television.  Now, I'm not a big fan of TFG, but one of the characters, Stan, found himself at a bar with a bunch of Log Cabin Republicans.  I just found the timing very funny since I was going to be attending their meeting the next day.

And Log Cabin's promotional materials are quite explicit--if you can't handle being in the room with a bunch of "gay people," then stay away, "because that's what we are!"  And they couldn't have been better hosts.  In fact, many of the same conversations were taking place with regards to President Obama, the health care legislation and the economy as what occur at Tea Party meetings or town halls.

Log Cabin is participating in a gay pride parade on September 20th in Uptown and a large crowd of Republicans is being sought to march with this group in order to exhibit the inclusiveness of the Party.  If you would be willing or interested in walking in the parade, contact Log Cabin to let them know.

The show you meant was "American Dad", which was also created by Seth MacFarlane. Stan meets the Log Cabin Republicans in the episode 'Lincoln Lover'.

Thanks Brendan...shows you how much pop culture I pay attention to! I just found it really funny that was on TV on any show the night before I was attending a Log Cabin meeting. State Sen. John Carona is their guest next month...I kind of flayed him last time we were in the same room, should be fun.
