Medical study concludes marijuana use can double risk of strokes (Video)

Marijuana also known as hemp, cannabis or pot is a drug that has been federally regulated as an illegal drug since 1930. There are a few countries where this substance is legal. Currently in the United States the use of cannabis for medicinal use is allowed in the states of Colorado and Washington with a regime that is regulated. Medical News Today reported on Jan. 6 that marijuana is the substance that increases stroke risks and not tobacco from regular cigarettes. These findings were recently revealed at The American Stoke Association’s International Stroke Conference in 2013.

What many people don’t know is that marijuana, can double one’s risk of having a stroke according to a medical study in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry that was published in 2005. Some therapeutic benefits have been associated to use of marijuana for medical usage it also has many adverse affects that can put one’s health in danger.

Along with the risk of strokes; ischemic and transient ischemic attacks (TIA) users can also experience blood clots, an inability to speak hours after using cannabis as well as convulsions in some cases. Other risks experienced are an extreme changes in high and low blood pressure, an increase risk of schizophrenia, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) and can increase the effects on the cardiovascular system which can quadruple the risk of heart attacks within an hour after consumption or using marijuana.

It is evident that the benefits don’t out way the risks. Anyone who is using this drug for medical reasons needs to consult with their physician. Any signs or symptoms experienced that are new and unusual should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Risking a stroke and other medical problems is something that needs to be taken into consideration when contemplating taking marijuana.
