A Feb. 21 article at Media Matters that takes note of conservative support for Dr. Ben Carson is being called racist by a number of conservatives on Twitter, Twitchy reported.
"Dr. Benjamin Carson is the latest in a long line of black conservatives -- from Clarence Thomas to Herman Cain -- relentlessly promoted and propped up by right-wing voices in the media," the Media Matters article breathlessly begins.
Dr. Carson is the man who spoke of conservative values at a recent National Prayer Breakfast and has become something of a star to many conservatives.
"Geez Louise, @MMFA just attacked Dr. Ben Carson because he's black. Not even subtle about it," tweeted David Henry.
"Reporting from the Bull Conner Wing of the Robert Byrd Media Analysis Center, @mmfa attacks Ben Carson," added Rick Wilson.
Dana Loesch, responding to a tweet by Rebel Pundit, called the article racist.
"The more I read this, the more racist it is," Rebel Pundit said.
"Because If you're white and agree with Ben Carson, you're still racist," one person added.
"Yes, that’s about it," Twitchy said. "Seeing as this is a 'research' piece from Media Matters, there’s no need to skip to the end to find out who the bad guy is — Fox News, obviously."
But, Twitchy added, Carson was already a hit among conservatives with his speech at the prayer breakfast, "leaving Fox racing to play catch-up."
David Limbaugh summed up Dr. Carson this way:
Finally, a self-reliant conservative decided to make this every bit as political as Obama does. Yes, we had a voice. Benjamin Carson.
But Twitchy said that to liberals, the only reason conservatives like Dr. Carson is that he is a black man willing to criticize a black president.
"If Media Matters wants to do some real research into the popularity of Ben Carson, we’d suggest they watch his speech again — or better yet, just listen," Twitchy said. "The color seems to be too much of a distraction."
