On April 8, 2013, U.S. District Judge Roy B Dalton sentenced Casey Dickerson, 31, to 20 years in prison for the rape of a 15-year-old girl. The attack took place on the cruise ship Carnival Sensation in August 2012.
Dickerson was found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse and aggravated sexual abuse of a minor in December.
While on a cruise with his wife, Dickerson brought the victim along with her friend to his cabin.
Once inside the room, Dickerson and four teenage boys held the girl down and took turns having sex with her, according to court documents.
The victim's friend was kept in the bathroom during the attack by one of the assailants.
The Orlando Sentinel reported:
As Dickerson and the others sexually assaulted the victim, they told each other to "switch," so that they would change positions.
The girl said someone knocked on the door while she was being attacked and one of the boys answered it.
The girl said she was on the floor of the cabin, wearing only a bra, and after the person who knocked at the door left, Dickerson and the boys continued their sexual attacks, the complaint says.
Once the girls were allowed to leave the room, they immediately reported the assault to ship personnel.
The victim required medical treatment for her injuries and a rape kit was performed while aboard the cruise ship.
Dickerson reportedly purchased several bottles of liquor for the teens prior to the attack.
Because the rape took place in the waters off the coast of Florida, the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.
None of the teen assailants have been prosecuted.
While this crime did receive local coverage, no national outlets covered the case.
