I'm always on the look-out for new games regardless of what system they are released for. This week, I’ll spotlight Oyaji Games’ Mecho Wars. Mecho Wars is an Advanced Wars style game with RPG elements that has recently been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and is in development for Nintendo’s Wii and DSi systems. The game is the creation of Luc Bernard, the creator of “Eternity’s Child.” The game takes place in the same world and features the same charming, Tim Burton-esque art style.

Bernard announced the game on his blog back in December and later opened Oyaji Games. Mecho War’s was released on saturday June 13th 2009 and you can now pick it up on the Apple iTunes App Store. The game is only 7 MB in size and is listed at $4.99.
For those that are not familiar with Advanced Wars, Mecho Wars plays like a turn-based strategy game where the player maneuvers several infantry pieces around a map and engages in individual battles. There are many ways to appraoch skirmishes as certain infantry have a tactical advantage over others. There are also bases in play and as the player captures factories, they will be able to expand their army. Cities can also be captured to advance the army’s economy. The end result is the capture of the enemy’s HQ or vice versa.

Five dollars is a steal for a game like this as the reviews have been very favorable so far. The game features a rich story that takes place in the Eternity’s Child canon, RPG elements and tactical scenarios. Mecho Wars describes the rise of the Winged Crusade and their struggle against the Landians. The world is a desert world with bodies of water that separate land masses. The unique mechanic in the gameplay is the day/night cycle. During the night the water masses will freeze over giving land units the ability to move anywhere.
You really have no reason not to own this game if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch. There are a lot of games on the App Store, some good, some crappy, but I can guarentee that you can’t beat a game like this for five dollars.
