Meatless Mondays at Locanda del Lago in Santa Monica (Photos)

Take a break from the holiday turkey and enjoy a Meatless Monday menu at Locanda del Lago located on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Every Monday, the Northern Italian restaurant serves up vegetarian, vegan and fish favorites that are prepared without cheese, milk or butter, and feature fresh, seasonal produce from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market.

The menu is a three- to four-course prix-fixe with optional dairy-free dessert executed by Executive Chef Gianfranco Minuz and implemented by owner West Hooker-Poletti after attending a lecture by James Cameron for “Avatar” that spoke to the benefits of going meatless each week.

Locanda del Lago was the first Santa Monica restaurant to offer an official Meatless Monday menu used as a way to “reset” our bodies each week. In addition to the Meatless Monday menu, Lago offers many vegetarian-friendly menu options daily like potato Gnocchi with Shitake and Porcini mushrooms, pumpkin ravioli, roasted chestnut and blueberry risotto, Margherita pizza and much more.
