Meagan Crews was crowned Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen 2014 on Saturday night in Monroe, pageant officials announced on their Facebook page.

Crews will represent Louisiana at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, scheduled for August in Orlando, Florida.

The teen pageant is the younger-sister pageant to the Miss America competition. Contestants are ages 13-17 years.

Crews is a long-time participant in pageants. She entered the 2014 pageant as Miss Dixie Gem Peach’s Outstanding Teen.

She describes herself in her Twitter profile as “proudly representing my routes one blonde moment at a time.”

If Crews earns the national title, she will become the first Louisiana teen to wear the crown.

The highest-placing Louisiana contestant, so far, is Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen 2007 Mary Jane Hobsgood, who was third runner-up at the national pageant.

Founded in 2005, the national pageant organization has awarded about $5 million in cash and in-kind scholarships, according to pageant officials.

"The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization has also established community-based initiatives and mentoring programs aimed at helping our nation’s youth build character and gain the skills necessary for success in the real world," pageant officials said. "In partnership with committed adult volunteers, community and business leaders, as well as participants from the national competition, the Organization continues to implement programs aimed at helping young people develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience, self-worth and conviction about their own potential."
