Landre, who also stars in the film, is currently seeking crowd-funding through a Kickstarter campaign. She recently answered a few questions about her project.
Tell us what inspired you to create this project.
To be honest, I'm not sure inspired was where I was when I started writing this script. I had gotten out of relationship and was sorting through some emotions, and out of a need to channel them, I started to write. I questioned what it meant to say you loved someone, and how far that love would go when sh*t hit the fan. Soon the questions and prodding led me to set a dangerous love affair in Brazil, pin it against a backdrop of drugs and crime, and push my characters to a heightened reality where it pit them against the world.
How did you find your cast and crew in Brazil?
A friend of mine had given me two email contacts down in Rio. So when I got there, I called up the first girl, and after a week or so she dropped out of the project, and so I called the next girl. And with Anna, who became my producer, we were able to wrangle a cast and crew, mostly through her contacts and also some Brazilian Facebook friends of mine back in Los Angeles.
What were some of the challenges you encountered while filming the trailer reel in Brazil?
There were a host of challenges, for one, I didn't speak Portuguese. So when I got there, I took one week of classes to give myself a base of the language and the rest of the time I just made my Spanish sound more Portuguese, ha! Another factor was finding locations since I didn't know the lay of the land. For most of the month right up until we shot, I ran around with my Flip camera recording B-roll and scouting locations. But the biggest challenge of all was probably to believe that I could pull off something as crazy as shooting a trailer in a city I had never been to before. And as that all-consuming fear would wash over me, I just held onto the only thing I had -- my faith that I would get on that plane back to LA and have an amazing trailer in the can.
How can people help support your project?
With just two weeks left and over half of our goal to raise, people can check out our Kickstarter campaign. There are simple directions on how to contribute, and every little bit helps.
When can audiences expect to see the completed film?
Sometime in early 2015, after the World Cup and before the Olympics in Brazil!
