McQuillan makes huge move on final day of Reno-Tahoe Open; Piercy wins title

Canadian Matt McQuillan shot the lights out Sunday to lift himself into a T6 finish in the Reno-Tahoe Open at Montreux Golf & Country Club.

The Kingston native fired a scintillating six-under 66 that included seven birdies and one bogey as he racked up $97,125 in earnings.

McQuillan’s powerful performance landed him at 11-under 277 for the championship. He now has two top-10 finishes over his last five tournaments.

Calgary’s Stephen Ames was another Canadian that played on the weekend.

Ames carded a final round score of one-over 73 to end up T50 at three-under 285. He won $7,131.43.

Scott Piercy of the U.S. won the event by a single shot over fellow American Pat Perez.

Piercy banked $540,000 after shooting a two-under 70 to finish at 15-under 273.
