According to the 2014 Sochi website, Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan will have to step up and perform admirably in the semi-finals of the men's slopestyle snowboarding competition on Friday if he intends to qualify for Saturday's final.

McMorris will need to finish in the four in the semis (CBC, 10:30 p.m. mountain time) to earn one of the 12 spots available in the finals on Saturday (CBC, 1:45 a.m. mountain time).

McMorris, who is a three-time Winter X Games champion, broke his rib at the 2014 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado leading up to Sochi. In Wednesday's qualification round, McMorris actually fell in his first round and only posted a score of 89.25 in the second round (despite performing well), which was only seventh best in heat two. After the qualification, McMorris was surprised at his score.

If McMorris does finish in the top four in the semi-finals, he will join his Canadian teammates Maxence Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec (the 2014 Winter X Games champion and qualification leader) and two-time Winter X Games champion Sebastien Toutant of Montreal.
