"Clark Gable Slept Here," a new play written by award-winning South Florida playwright Michael McKeever will have its world premiere in Miami later this month.

The play will make its debut March 20 and run through April 6 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. A co-production between the Arsht Center and McKeever's Zoetic Stage, it will be performed in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater. McKeever is a co-founder of the theater company.

"McKeever's writing is witty, intelligent and exciting. I believe that audiences will love 'Clark Gable Slept Here' for its topical themes and his endearingly flawed but hysterical characters," said Stuart Melzer, who is Zoetic's artistic director.

The play centers around one of the silver screen's brightest stars as he charms his way though the Golden Globes ceremony while his staff tries to figure out what to do with the dead male prostitute on the floor of his penthouse suite during an era when closets were used for much more than hanging up your tuxedo.

"Since its inception in 2010, the partnership between the Arsht Center and Zoetic Stage has been received with critical success. This is a testament to the power of two creative organizations joining forces to create passionate, thought-provoking pieces that continue to inspire our local audiences time and time again," said Scott Shiller, executive vice president of the Arsht Center.

McKeever is a prolific playwright whose work has been produced off-Broadway as well as throughout America, Canada and Europe. He has won numerous honors, including multiple Carbonell awards, which recognize excellence in South Florida theater. He is also often seen as an actor.

"Clark Gable Slept Here," follows on the heels of "Assassins," the Steven Sondheim award-winning musical that was also a co-production between Zoetic and the Arsht Center and received critical acclaim.

The play is part of the Arsht Center's highly acclaimed Theater Close Up series, which features artistic collaborations from stellar local theater ensembles and nationally acclaimed theater companies.

Tickets are $45 and may be ordered by calling (305) 949-6722 or online.
