Amidst the expanse of conventional agriculture land on the Oxnard Plain, lies the McGrath Family Farm. Since 1995, fourth-generation farmer, Phil McGrath, has harvested certified-organic fruits, vegetables and flowers for health- and earth-conscious Southern California foodies.
High-end restaurant chiefs, concerned parents and sustainable junkies alike have turned to the McGrath family for “honest” and fresh produce for decades. Last week, the farm center and community supported agriculture (CSA) at McGrath opened for the season. McGrath offers seasonal produce, fresh-made jams and other specialty products at theirfarm center.
The McGrath farm exemplifies a “closed-loop”, sustainable farm by incorporating elements such as organic farming, alternative energy, composting and animal husbandry. The farm also has a strong commitment to educational programs as they host farm animal tours and in-school visits.
McGrath Family Farms is located immediately south of the 101 freeway less than a mile past the Central Ave. exit in Camarillo. The farm center is open from nine to six daily.
