Mobile firefighters was called out late on a wet cold and rainy Thursday evening to a house on fire located on McFarland Road in west Mobile county. When the first fire unit approached the scene around 9 p.m. the captain reported on the scene with a house fully involved because flames could be seen from the main road.
The house was set off the road down a long drive way so the first unit arriving could only see the fire through the trees and brush. When the first units finally reached the home after walking down the long driveway they found only the garage on fire that was not attached to the home.
The crew quickly started extinguishing the fire while other crews were making sure the fire didn’t catch the house on fire. The house was saved and no damage was caused to the home because of the fire. The garage was totally destroyed by the fire with nothing much left but a skeleton of a frame.
After the fire was out firefighters was told that the family cat had been in the garage so firefighters searched through the burnt remains of the garage to see if the cat could be found. After searching thought the garage the family cat could not be found so hopefully the cat escaped into the wooded back yard and will return home after it calms itself down. No firefighters or civilians were injured because of this fire at 2612 McFarland Road.
