According to USA Today on Monday, McDonald's will be adding "Mighty Wings" next month.
The wings will be bone-in, breaded and seasoned cayenne and chili pepper and will be sold in packs of three starting at $2.99. Customers will be able to choose from a variety of 9 sauces, including creamy ranch and chipotle barbecue. They will be available through November.
McDonald's has been trying to introduce new menu items to spur sluggish sales. But the chain also releases some new items and re-introduces others, such as the McRib, seasonally. McDonald’s, the world’s largest restaurant chain, rose 0.2 percent to $95.31 at the close in New York. The shares have gained 8 percent this year, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index has advanced 16 percent.
Along with egg white sandwiches and McWraps, it has this year introduced new flavors of Quarter Pounder burgers and blueberry pomegranate smoothies to lure diners.
Alexander Abad-Santos, of the Atlantic Wire, says the wings are a huge mistake:
Part of the reason fast food was created was because of a need for speedy, efficient, eating with minimal cleanup. A chicken wing barely passes those metrics. Using the meat-to-work ratio, chicken wings rank just below crabs when measured by at how much meat you get in comparison to how much work it takes to get it in your mouth.
The news to roll out a new menu item comes just after the Natural News Forensic Food Laboratory found strange fibers in the Chicken McNuggets using a high-powered microscope that resembled "Morgellon's". The researchers found dark, black hair-like structures in the chicken. You can see the grotesque pictures here.
