McDonald's pays $700,000 to Muslim group over Halal menu (Video)

Five decades ago, Michigan was the automotive capital of the world and served as a symbol of America's industrial prowess. On Tuesday, it served as a reminder of the nation's evolution into a litigious society.

On Jan. 22, Fox News reported that McDonald's has agreed to pay $700,000 to the Muslim community after lawyers claimed that a Detroit-area restaurant sold non-Halal food. Customers had bought chicken sandwiches and chicken nuggets. However, according to Islamic dietary law, God's name must be invoked before an animal is slaughtered. To comply with a Halal-based menu, the company uses suppliers who prepare products for followers of Islam.

According to the settlement terms, the $700,000 will be distributed between the lawyers, Dearborn Heights resident Ahmed Ahmed, the Huda Clinic in Detroit, the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn. As you might expect, there's a big catch. McDonald's will be paying a big chunk ($230,000) to the attorney's and only $20,000 to Mr. Ahmed.

There are two McDonald's restaurants in the United States that serve Halal food. Detroit is home to 150,000 Muslims. Apparently, the Detroit restaurant temporary run out of Halal food and the basis for the lawsuit was false advertising. Sure, these lawsuits happen all the time. But to pursue it on chicken nuggets, really?

McDonald's seems to be in a no-win situation. If God's name is required to be invoked prior to the slaughter of an animal, the company faces frivolous lawsuits from all kinds of secular groups who wish to disassociate their hamburgers and fish fillet sandwiches away from religion. Thus, Halal food items serve as the basis for atheist-based lawsuits.

In 2002, McDonald's already "donated $10 million to Hindu groups in the U.S. to settle lawsuits that accused the chain of mislabeling french fries and hash browns as vegetarian," according to Fox. "The vegetable oil used to prepare the items had contained traces of beef for flavoring purposes."

Yes, even animal flavoring - while artificial - is enough to cost a company millions of dollars simply for operating here in the United States. What's left of the profits are gobbled up by higher tax rates and Obamacare. Welcome to the Obama Nation.

What's the root cause of this $700,000 settlement. Are offensive chicken nuggets really the cause of this religious-based lawsuit, or rather an atrocious economy in Detroit which has one of the highest murder rates in the United States.

Speaking of a litigious society, America's president is after all a lawyer named Barack Hussein Obama. Fitting that it's McDonald's and one of its franchise owners, a symbol of America's fast food business, that has to pay a hefty sum to prowling attorneys.

What's next? Mosques near Ground Zero in New York? That's certainly "chains we can believe in."
