McDonald's, under pressure on many front with breakfast sales, is hoping that free morning coffee will stem the tide of declining sales. For the next two weeks, the fast food giant will offer a free small McCafe coffee at all US restaurants, during breakfast hours from March 31st until April 13th.
With Taco Bell introducing its new breakfast menu, Starbucks offering free coffee with the purchase of any of its new breakfast sandwiches, and Dunkin Donuts posting sales gains, while opening hundreds of new shops, McDonald's experienced declining breakfast sales for the past four months.
Although, McDonald's blames the downward sales spiral on the harsh winter weather; the free coffee is most likely another weapon in the arsenal to deal with the competition and hopefully attract more customers.
The free morning coffee will run in conjunction with a campaign for free sampling and tastings at high traffic locations and transportation hubs. Also the restaurants will give away prizes and coffee to commuters and Twitter followers.
